Installing Python and Setting Up Environment ⚙️

Step 1: Download Python

• Visit the official Python website.
• Choose the latest stable version (e.g., Python 3.x).
• Select the installer for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

Step 2: Install Python

• Windows:
  • Run the installer.
  • Check the box “Add Python to PATH” before clicking Install Now.
• macOS:
  • Download the .pkg installer and follow the installation steps.
  • Python may already be pre‑installed, but installing the latest version is recommended.
• Linux:
  • Most distributions include Python by default.
  • To install or update, use your package manager:

    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install python3
    

Step 3: Verify Installation

• Open your terminal (Command Prompt, PowerShell, or shell).
• Type:

  python --version
  

• You should see the installed version number (e.g., Python 3.11.7).

Step 4: Install a Code Editor

• Beginners often use Visual Studio Code (VS Code) because it’s lightweight and beginner‑friendly.
• Download from VS Code website.
• Install the Python extension for syntax highlighting, debugging, and running code easily.

Step 5: Setting Up Virtual Environment (Optional but Recommended)

• Virtual environments help you manage project‑specific packages.
• Create one by running:

  python -m venv myenv
  

• Activate it:
  • Windows: myenv\Scripts\activate
  • macOS/Linux: source myenv/bin/activate
• To deactivate:

  deactivate
  

Step 6: Install Useful Packages

• Use pip, Python’s package manager, to install libraries:

  pip install requests numpy pandas
